| Before you can get started, you first need to hold a Provisional Licence. The application form to apply for this, can be acquired from your local post office. In readiness, this can be applied for before your 17th birthday. Your eyesight needs to be adequate enough to be able to read a number plate from 20.5m (67 feet).
Before you can take your Practical Driving Test, you will need to have passed the Theory/Hazard Perception Test. This test can be booked online, by post or by telephone to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). The test involves multi choice questions followed by a sample video clip of everyday driving where you have to identify the hazards. There are various books and videos published by the DSA that would assist you in learning the information required to pass the test. The Highway Code book also provides essential information that you must learn. The Highway Code book can be purchased from most stationers or bookshops.
